Fools Gold In A Day
Remember this Stone Roses classic?
We got the call to produce a cover version of this track at 9am. They wanted it by 4.
The beats were laid down quickly, although we realised that the loop on the record is is a strange number of bars. The loop never actually repeats itself from the start, and so most of the bars miss their downbeat. Very strange - this one had us sweating.
The only solution was to record some guide vocals quickly to work out the song structure.
We reckon John Squire is one of the best guitarists this country has ever produced - were we able to play like the flop haired master?
Well.. no - but after careful scrutiny of his parts we realised they're not all that difficult. So.. a bit of wah-wah guitar then. We took each section's riffs and played them 4 times to build up a fatter guitar part.
Bass - no problem.
Even the mix came together in record time, and sounded brilliant :) We finsihed mastering it at 4pm exactly.
Thats how we did Fools Gold in a day.
